Open to the Public Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Inside Dog Kennels:
Cleaning pens (disinfecting with chemicals done only by employees) , scooping poop, washing bowls, doing laundry (gathering, washing, drying, folding, and putting away linens), walking dogs, maintaining yard outside of kennel areas.
Outside Dog Kennels:
Same as above
Cleaning all areas of rooms with bleach, cleaning condos, scooping litter pans, doing laundry (gathering, washing, drying, folding, and putting away linens.
Cuddling, talking, singing, or humming to cats and kittens so they become comfortable with people.
Adult Dog Interaction:
Talking to, petting, romping and playing with each dog in "play pen," reading in a soft voice to benefit shy or withdrawn dogs. If appropriate, taking dogs to see other people or animals.
Playing with and handling puppies so they become comfortable with people, taking puppies for short walks to leash train them.
Brushing, bathing, grooming dogs or cats
Answering phones, taking messages, filing, typing ( computer work), and performing other general office duties.
Repairing kennels, fences, mowing and edging, performing general upkeep of grounds.
Planning an event, posting flyers, collecting tickets, selling t-shirts, raffle tickets, and other items.
Spending as much time as possible walking a dog. Second Chance staff makes an effort to walk each dog each day, but volunteers are an added benefit to the operation.

The Animal Shelter of Clarendon County d/b/a A Second Chance Animal Shelter (ASCAS) wants to welcome you, and thank you. However, we must be clear that this is an Animal Shelter, and certain dangers exist that you should be aware of before assisting us.
Risks of entering this facility include being bitten by an animal, scratched by an animal, falling, and other obvious and not so obvious dangers. Many animals have been traumatized, some are sick, all are unpredictable, and may either bite or injure you or cause you to fall or hurt yourself. Please be careful with lifting heavy objects, slipping, falling, possible dehydration, and overheating.
By entering these premises, and/or by signing up as a volunteer you are therefore agreeing to voluntarily assume all risks of injury and or death, and waive any and all claims that you may have of any kind whatsoever against the organization ASCAS.
Please understand that if you are injured for any reason
while volunteering and assisting this organization that you shall be solely responsible for your own injuries, medical expenses or any other kind whatsoever.
If you are not willing to agree to the full assumption of risk and all injuries, please do not enter this facility, or
participate in any way with our operations.
